Spencer Pond Camps
The Accommodations

l  More than just an adventure…an authentic North Woods experience l

The first cabin was built in 1901 and the camps have a rich history and heritage.  In the 1940’s two of the cabins were constructed from the roof boards of the dismantled William Tell Hunting Club (the oldest hunting club formed in the United States) which was located at the Spencer Pond Outlet.

We provide daily and weekly rentals of six lakeside housekeeping cabins. All cabins are fully furnished. Each cabin includes a fully equipped kitchen with all cooking utensils, pots and pans, dishes, etc. All cabins have a gas stove (includes cook top and oven), gas refrigerator, and propane and kerosene lights. We do not have electricity and therefore cannot accommodate electrical appliances. Thus there are no toasters or coffee makers but we supply “old-fashioned” kitchen tools that allow you to mix your cakes, perk your coffee and make your toast! Each cabin has a hand pump and access to fresh drinking water. Shower stalls are inside each cabin, and hot showers can be taken by heating water on the wood stove and filling the shower bags. Each cabin has its own private clean outhouse. We believe that this plumbing “out back” experience is in itself authentic to the true sporting camp tradition. We provide matches, toilet paper and dishwashing soap, you provide the rest!

Each cabin has a wood heating stove and a supply of wood and kindling so you can easily start your own fires and sit back beside the fire to enjoy its bone-warming heat.  Barbecue stands are also available in front of the cabins but remember to bring charcoal!  There is a central fireplace where you are welcome to build a bonfire and toast marshmallows, make s’mores, tell ghost stories or simply enjoy the flicker of a moonlit fire.

Each cabin has twin beds which can be converted into king beds at your request. Some cabins have double beds available. We also have rollaway beds and cribs available upon request. Beds are provided with warm blankets and crisp sheets. Homemade quilts and afghans lie at the foot of each bed for you to snuggle with while reading a book or falling asleep listening to the yodel of the loons.

Each cabin has its own dock and a canoe (paddles and life preservers included). Children can spend the day fishing off the docks and will be rewarded with a variety of fish. We also rent motorized boats (5 hp and under), kayaks, and small sailboats upon request. Guests are allowed to launch their own boats with small motors (10 hp and under). Items towed behind boats, Jet skis and large boats are prohibited. For those anglers and boaters that desire to explore and play in other areas, we have limited space available to store boats and trailers.

We have a quarter mile private drive that winds down from the main logging road to the campground. Guest vehicles are kept in the parking lot except during arrival and departure, which provides a safe and quiet atmosphere for everyone to enjoy nature and children to play. We have a series of well marked nature trails that start in the campground and extends to various locations near the pond. The logging roads in our area provide a perfect opportunity for mountain bikers. We have a limited supply of mountain bikes that guests can rent upon request.

Hunting parties are welcome during the fall. We welcome hunting dogs as well.  Hunting is not allowed from the start of the driveway down to the campground to ensure safety for all guests. After a long day of hunting we understand the value of a warm cabin and hot food. Upon request., we will gladly keep your woodstove stoked and stick food you have prepared in the oven so it is ready at your expected arrival time. Bear baiting is not allowed in the township so unfortunately we cannot accommodate bear hunters.
