  •  Seek to conserve natural resources by ensuring the responsible use of energy, water and materials and still provide the quality of service expected by our guests.

  • Annually conduct a periodic review of our current practices with the aim of continual improvement by reducing, re-using or recycling in areas such as: Water consumption, Waste materials produced, and Energy consumption

  • Gain support from our customers and ensure they are made aware of our environmental policy.

  • Source products that have minimal environmental impact. These include items such as cleaning, packaging, recyclable products, local sourcing of services and products.

  • Use of environmentally friendly non-toxic cleaning products throughout the Cabins that are green-seal certified. We use natural cleaners such as vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, and recycled newspapers for many purposes. Murphy’s Oil Soap and Clorox Greenworks products are also used. We use soaps that do not contain phosphates.

  • Measure our carbon footprint and look for ways to proactively reduce CO2 emissions

  • Move towards a paperless environment while still supporting our customers that do not have online access. Examples include: online booking, reservation confirmation and receipts via email. Our web host is Fat Cow which provides webhosting services powered by 100% wind energy.

  • Maintain hiking trails and encourage guests to use them to minimize impact and human disturbance on woodlands.

  • Support the landowner’s decisions to    close roads near camps to vehicular traffic during mud season to reduce erosion.

  • Provide education to guests on outdoor burning, invasive species, lead sinkers, respecting wildlife, and leave no trace principles.

Guest Policies

  • When hiking we urge guests to follow the “Leave no Trace” principles, or when geocaching to “Cache in – trash out”

Hunting

  • No bear baiting & no use of ATV’s in East Middlesex Canal Grant

  • Hunters are asked to pick up spent cartridges and shells to reduce litter and heavy metal toxicity in soils.

  • Hunters should properly field dress and transport game in order to minimize waste.

Fishing

  • We encourage the use of barbless hooks to reduce fish mortality.

  • We ask that you limit your brook trout catch to what you will consume and practice catch and release anything not planned for consumption

  • Lead sinkers are toxic to birds and Maine law bans their use.

  • Fishing and hunting waste should be kept away from water and trails

  • Guests are required to keep vehicles on designated roads to minimize damage to the environment and landowners' property.

  • Guests are encouraged to conserve energy. Turn off gas lights and kerosene lanterns in unoccupied rooms.  We also encourage an optional electronic free zone from the parking lot into the camp yard.

  • Guests are notified of our mandatory recycling program. Separate containers are provided and marked for our guests convenience

  • We encourage guests to help us conserve energy and reduce waste by reusing towels and linens during their stay.
